The OC is home to some of the most prestigious film and television education programs in the country. Cal State Fullerton starts the list with its department of radio-TV-film, where students learn to understand the function of film and electronic media in society, as well as practical coursework in production. At Chapman University, undergraduates can earn film production, screenwriting, and television degrees, as well a master degree in film. The University of California, Irvine film and media studies program teaches its students the theory and the operation of film and video.
All of this artistic and creative energy is met with equal enthusiasm in the employment arena. The job market in Orange County is booming for film careers and entertainment-minded folks. Directors and producers can expect 17.1% job growth through 2012; media equipment workers, 17.2%; audio/video technicians, 23.9%; camera operators, 20%; and film/video editors, 18.2%.
